TROOP HISTORY

Troop 878 was established in 1970 in the Northampton subdivision, where it met until Klein United Methodist Church (KUMC) became its charter sponsor in 1977. As charter sponsor, KUMC shares our objectives for the boys, provides service opportunities and insures that there is adequate, trained leadership. Parents, scouts, and church members constructed the Warren M. Trimm Memorial Scout House where today, the majority of the troop functions are held.

The troop is a youth led organization (with adult guidance) operating within the Polaris District of the Sam Houston Area Council, Boys Scouts of America. The adult leadership of Troop 878 has always been dedicated to providing our scouts an enjoyable and positive scouting experience in an active, outdoor oriented troop, while also promoting service to our supporting community.

Troop 878’s first Eagle Scout made rank in 1973. Since that time, over 50 scouts in Troop 878 have achieved Eagle, the highest rank in Boy Scouts. The troop celebrated rechartering for the 35th year in 2004. All previous Scoutmasters, Troop Committee members, Eagle Scouts, and scouts were invited to celebrate this event, along side the current scouts of Troop 878.

As we are an outdoor oriented troop, we plan at least one primary outdoor/camping activity per month for its’ membership. Besides these, we also attend various District and Council functions, as well as weeklong Summer and Winter Camps.

We have annual dues that consist of Boy’s Life, rechartering fees to the Council, and dues for the Troop. A Turkey Shoot Fundraiser held every October supports our operating budget. All scouts participate in it by selling tickets and working the event.

We hope that through the dedication of the Adult leaders, the willingness and eagerness of the scouts that we will be around for another 35 years.
